The biggest ever infrastructure project to take place in the United Kingdom is the HS2, it will connect London, Birmingham, the West Midlands, Leeds and Manchester by rail. There will be thousands of machine operators needed to drive the excavators and dump trucks that will work day and night on the 330 miles, (530 km) of the proposed route. Most of the early employment opportunities are on the enabling works this includes utility relocations and demolition projects to make way for the new line before the main bulk earthmoving work starts later in 2021

Plant hire companies that have already tendered and have been given contracts on phase one of the HS2 project and who are currently working on the route between London and Birmingham include:
  • Flannery Plant Hire
  • Thomas Plant Hire
  • LLynch Plant Hire
  • Plant Force
Operators working for these companies are required to have an in date and valid CPCS operator qualification then undergo an HS2 induction to be allowed to start work. When the companies have not been able to fill their open positions through their own internal databases they have been known to post their new available positions for machine operators in the HS2 Rail Jobs Group and the CPCS Operators (Jobs) Group on Facebook
