Hinkley Point potential strike action.

It is estimated that nearly a quarter of the construction workers are doing a sit in on site protest over alleged pay and conditions for staff

The GMB and Unite unions at one of the biggest and most expensive construction projects on the planet had been preparing for strike action since members voted in September 2017 to knock back the previous offer from main contractor Bylor and Hinkley Point C constructors and EDF Energy. But a revised offer means workers will be paid up to 36 per cent above the minimum pay rates.

Strike action was previously avoided in October 2017 after trade unions agreed a better pay deal for workers on site.

The site was closed on Thursday because of the bad weather that hit the United Kingdom and many of the staff on site don’t know when then will pick up the tools again to go back to work.
